Isaiya Katoa is set to be named in the extended NSW squad for State of Origin 3, marking a significant recognition of his impressive performance in 2025.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Katoa will be included in Laurie Daley's 20-player squad, although it is unlikely that he will see game time unless there's a last-minute injury crisis.

However, Daley's intention to include Katoa in camp is aimed at introducing him to the Origin environment with an eye on the future.

At just 21 years old, Katoa is viewed as a potential successor to Nathan Cleary in the NSW halfback position, suggesting a promising future in the sky blue jersey.

His recent performance with the Dolphins, where he contributed three try assists in a dominant 50-28 victory over the Rabbitohs, further underscores his readiness for the rigors of Origin.

Katoa has demonstrated he wouldn't be intimidated by the stage and has recently focused on studying Queensland's legendary spine combinations.

Katoa mentioned, "We have a spine meeting where the nine, six, seven and one come together.

Some of the clips we look at are Cameron Smith, JT (Johnathan Thurston), Cooper Cronk and Billy Slater all connecting (for the Maroons).

The more they connected the more success their team had.

We are trying to build that into the own games and still try to play to the individual strengths.

It is a work in progress for us."

The Dolphins' attack has been prolific, scoring over 50 points in three of their last four games, alongside a convincing 44-8 win against the Bulldogs.

This recent success highlights Katoa's pivotal role in the team's offensive strategy and reflects his growth as a player.

As he prepares for potential inclusion in the upcoming Origin decider, Katoa's performance and mindset could set the foundation for an exciting future in representative rugby league.
