Sea Eagles forward Toafofoa Sipley has been banned for four matches following a hip drop tackle that resulted in Dragons winger Mat Feagai sustaining a broken leg and undergoing surgery.
Sipley apologized to Feagai and pleaded guilty to the ungraded Dangerous Contact charge.
The NRL judiciary, represented by panel members Greg McCallum and Tony Puletua, highlighted the severity of the offense by handing Sipley a five-match suspension.
Despite Sipley's guilty plea, he was only given a one-game deduction, sending a strong message about the seriousness of hip drop tackles in the league.
