NRL journalist Phil Rothfield's once-strong relationship with Darryl Brohman has now turned sour after Rothfield published a story in 2019 about Andrew Johns' feud with Erin Molan at Channel 9.
The story revealed that Johns refused to work with Molan, leading to their separation during big-game broadcasts.
This caused unfair criticism towards Molan, who was blamed for the axing of the Thursday night Footy Show after she was promoted to host it.
Brohman, who worked with Molan on the show, was furious with Rothfield for publishing the story as it reignited trolling of Molan on social media.
Rothfield walked out of a live radio spot on 2GB after Brohman confronted him about the story minutes before going on air.
Since then, Rothfield has not returned to 2GB and has not heard from Brohman, whom he used to consider a friend.
Rothfield discussed the fallout on his new podcast, 'Off The Record,' where he described how Brohman accused him of a "low act" for writing the story about Molan and Johns.
The incident has irreparably damaged their relationship, with Brohman's anger towards Rothfield leading to their fallout.
This reveal sheds light on the personal consequences of reporting in the NRL and the impact it can have on relationships within the industry.
