Jock Madden shown the door as Hunt signs

Michael Maguire's first casualty confirmed as Ben Hunt signing seals fate of promising youngster

Jock Madden has been given the ole' 'look elsewhere' chat as Michael Maguire shakes up the roster to keep the likes of Selwyn Cobbo and Kotoni Staggs on board.

The young gun made his mark last season, filling in for club captain Adam Reynolds, who was out with injuries.

Starting in 15 games for the Broncos last year, Madden earned himself a new deal.

But with the recent signing of Ben Hunt, there's just no room left in the squad for the 24-year-old.

Despite being locked in until 2026, Madden has been advised to seek opportunities elsewhere.

Rumor has it several NRL clubs have been approached about Madden's potential recruitment, and even the Super League could be a landing spot for the halfback, according to The Courier Mail.

With Hunt now in the mix, the Broncos have a surplus of playmakers taking up a hefty chunk of the salary cap.

Madden has proven himself as a reliable player since his NRL debut under Maguire at the Tigers.

But with Reynolds, Hunt, Ezra Mam, Josh Rogers, and Coby Black all in contention for the halves, something had to give.

The plan is for Hunt and Reynolds to kick off the season in the halves, with Mam set to join once his suspension is up.

And who knows, maybe Hunt will get a swing at hooker when Mam is back in action.
