'We are many': Heritage jersey celebrates diversity of Jillaroos

As the Jillaroos gear up to defend their Pacific Championship title against the Kiwi Ferns, the team is also celebrating significant milestones and embracing themes that encourage unity and connection.

In recognition of the 30th anniversary of the Australian Jillaroos, coach Jess Skinner and team manager Anna Byrne proudly presented the new Heritage training jersey to the players. This design reflects the rich cultural diversity that constitutes the national team.

The design features the Niho Taniwha pattern, rooted in traditional Māori culture. This symbol represents "strength, leadership, guardianship and the wisdom passed down through generations," and it is placed at the base of the jersey to signify the strong foundations of the Jillaroos.

Additionally, the sleeves are adorned with a Celtic knot pattern, which symbolizes interconnectedness. Furthermore, the inclusion of a woven mat design embodies unity and strength, resonating deeply with the cultural significance shared among all Pacific Island nations.

For coach Jess Skinner, bringing this jersey to fruition was a result of months of collaboration and effort with Joseph and former players.
