The Newtown Jets triumphed over the North Sydney Bears, securing the Frank Hyde Shield with a decisive 36-22 victory in the NSW Cup clash at Henson Park.

This success was bolstered by contributions from multiple Sharks players.

However, the Cronulla under-21 Jersey Flegg Cup team faced a setback, losing 34-6 to the Storm, who lead the ladder.

Daniel Atkinson, back from NRL duty, shone at five-eighth, assisting one try and breaking through the Bears' defense to set up another.

Halfback Niwhai Puru also made significant contributions with a try assist and six successful goals.

The Jets had previously beaten the Bears 24-12 in their first meeting since the last year's grand final, and they continued their strong form from the outset.

Eli Clark opened the scoring just one minute into the match, finishing off a clever play orchestrated by Atkinson.

The Bears equalized with a try from Jake Toby after a charge-down, but the Jets took control, leading 18-10 at halftime thanks to tries from Brad Fearnley and Michael Gabrael, who capitalized on a grubber from Billy Burns.

Just before halftime, the Bears managed to score again, slightly dampening Newtown's momentum.

In the second half, Atkinson's impressive break led to Gabrael's second try, caught from an accurate cross-field kick by Puru.

Clark later added his second try after smooth teamwork from fullback Taj Ford.

The Jets' performance solidified their fourth-place standing and showcased their depth and talent in the squad.
