In Round 17, both the Jersey Flegg Sharks and Newtown Jets achieved significant victories against Souths at Coogee Oval.

The Flegg Sharks dominated their match, concluding with a decisive 40-14 win.

They set the tone early and maintained control throughout the game.

The Newtown Jets also showcased a strong performance, winning 42-18, further solidifying their position in the top four of the NSW Cup.

The Jets highlighted their attacking prowess from the outset, with centre Chris Vea'ila scoring early, followed by a try from hooker and captain Jayden Berrell after a line break by Michael Gabrael.

Niwhai Puru's successful conversions put the Jets ahead 12-0 within the first ten minutes.

As the match progressed, with the Jets' forwards establishing a solid foundation, Souths managed to score their first points.

However, Eli Clark and rising star Taj Ford quickly extended the Jets' lead to 24-6 at halftime.

Ford's second try, facilitated by some clever play from halfback Puru, maintained the Jets' dominance in the second half.

The game concluded with additional tries from Gabrael and winger Kristian Dixon, highlighted by a perfectly weighted Puru kick.

Overall, the Jets demonstrated a commanding performance, scoring seven tries to Souths' three.

Puru's impressive outing included seven successful conversions, marking the 10th win of the season for Newtown.
