Jesse Southwell has recently discussed her significant move to the Brisbane Broncos in the NRLW, marking a dramatic shift from the Newcastle Knights. She also hinted at the possibility of returning to rugby union in the future.
At just 20 years old, Southwell has already established herself as an elite player in the NRLW, with many regarding her as among the best in the competition.
Over the course of four seasons, she has represented Australia, achieved victories with the NSW Blues in the Women's State of Origin, and secured multiple premierships.
Her talent has drawn admiration from legends of the game, including the esteemed Andrew Johns.
In 2026, Southwell is set to embark on a new journey as she has signed a two-year contract with the Brisbane Broncos, following in the footsteps of her sister, Hannah Southwell, and Tamika Upton, who also left the Knights.
In her first comments regarding the transfer, Southwell indicated that her primary motivation for joining the Broncos was to cultivate her skills both individually and as part of a team, crediting her growth to NSW Blues coach John Strange.
"I wanted to learn. I feel like there's a lot in my game that I really want to improve," Southwell noted after celebrating her victory in the 2025 Pacific Championships with the Jillaroos.
