Jamie Soward has resigned from his position as head coach of Fetu Samoa, just a week after Shaun Wane stepped down from England Rugby League.
Soward held the role for three years and successfully led the nation to qualifying for this year's World Cup. His achievements include victories over Tonga and Fiji, as well as raising Fetu Samoa's IRL World Ranking from 20th to fifth.
Recently appointed as head coach of the North Coast Men's Rugby League Country Championship squad, Soward felt he could no longer fulfill the commitments required for the upcoming 2026 RLWC.
Rugby League Samoa issued a statement expressing their understanding of Soward's choice.
"While we are sorry to see Sowie go, we respect his decision and understand the importance of doing what's best for him, his new role and especially his family," stated RLS president Ponifasio Vasa. "We appreciate all his efforts and work during his tenure, and acknowledge the foundations he and his team paved to ensure the success of the team moving forward."
Soward's resignation marks the fourth head coach to leave their position before the tournament.
