James Maloney, a distinguished former NRL playmaker, has secured a new position as a specialist coach with the Brothers Penrith club for the 2026 season.

Having last played in the NRL in 2019, Maloney was recently let go from the North Queensland Cowboys coaching staff over a year ago. He is now set to contribute his expertise to the Brothers ahead of the upcoming Ron Massey Cup season.

The Ron Massey Cup ranks below the NRL and NSW Cup, recognized as the third tier of rugby league in New South Wales.

As a specialist coach, Maloney brings extensive experience, having spent 11 seasons in first-grade with notable teams such as the Melbourne Storm, New Zealand Warriors, Sydney Roosters, Cronulla Sharks, and Penrith Panthers from 2009 to 2019.

He is a two-time premiership winner with an impressive record of 249 first-grade appearances, accumulating 1839 career points, and has represented the NSW Blues 14 times in State of Origin, along with three games for the Australia Kangaroos.

"We are also extremely fortunate to welcome James Maloney to the Brothers family as Specialist Coach," stated the club.

"James brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience to the club. A former NRL premiership winner, State of Origin representative for New South Wales, and international player for Australia.

"James' knowledge and professionalism will be an incredible asset for the players and coaching staff alike."
