The NRL is set to conduct its most comprehensive salary cap review in over thirty years, which may lead to significant reforms such as reduced squad sizes, international player exemptions, and a reconsideration of the structure in anticipation of future expansion.
According to reports from zerotackle.com, ARLC chairman Peter V'landys announced the formation of a new taskforce for this review, incorporating input from various stakeholders across the rugby league sector, including the Rugby League Players' Association (RLPA), player agents, and club coaches.
The initiative, initially proposed by a club CEO, has received full support from both V'landys and NRL CEO Andrew Abdo.
V'landys stated, "What we'll do is commit to a review and put a team together from all parts of the game - the RLPA, the agents, the coaches and a few others - to have a look at the whole salary cap situation," emphasizing the need for a fresh examination as the salary cap "hasn't had a proper review for a long time."
