Ipswich Jets Push for NRL Franchise Bid

The Ipswich Jets aspire to secure their place as the NRL's 20th franchise, following an unsuccessful license application in 2021.

In a renewed push to join the competition by 2030, the Jets, based in south-eastern Queensland, are preparing to present a $60 million offer, as detailed by the Courier Mail.

There is a strong demand for rugby league in the Brisbane region, evident from the skyrocketing commercial success of the Brisbane Broncos and the positive reception of the Dolphins franchise from Redcliffe.

ARL commissioner Peter V'landys is set to meet with top officials from Queensland Rugby League to explore these expansion initiatives as the NRL market continues to grow.

According to Ipswich Jets chairman Steve Johnson, plans are in motion, and they are now equipped with the necessary funding for the licensing application.

"They want guarantees that we (Ipswich) would get an NRL licence if they stumped up the cash," Johnson mentioned to the Courier Mail.

"If that happens, they will put the cash in a bank account.

"We have the finances to make this happen."

With the potential for the AFL to establish itself in the outer Brisbane area, V'landys is likely to act swiftly, as about $1 billion is reportedly being allocated for Australian football development in that region.
