Asom Ioka scored 22 tries in 21 Queensland Cup games for Brisbane Tigers, and is in line for a Brisbane Broncos train-and-trial opportunity in the New Year.
Souths-Logan coach Karmichael Hunt said Ioka would join his Queensland Cup side next season before training with the Broncos.
Hunt said: "He is certainly capable of playing NRL."
The 23-year-old scored three tries against New Zealand in Christchurch on Sunday, putting the Cook Islands ahead 16-12 before the Aitu lost 82-16.
Ioka tore a calf while scoring his third try and will miss the Cook Islands' match against Australia in Townsville on Saturday night.
Hunt praised Ioka's athleticism and said he saw his best position as wing.
Ioka said the hat-trick was a career highlight in his ninth Test, and that he hoped to follow Cook Islands captain KL Iro into the NRL.
"I would love to play NRL if the opportunity came."
Ioka had a pre-season with the North Queensland Cowboys at the end of 2024, but suffered a syndesmosis injury.
He said: "Unfortunately I tore my calf and will be out for a few weeks now."
