The Bulldogs are facing the challenge of replacing injured players Matt Burton and Viliame Kikau, who are expected to miss 4-5 weeks with knee injuries.
Stephen Crichton has emerged as a surprise contender to replace half Stephen Crichton, with coach Cameron Ciraldo acknowledging the difficult situation.
Ciraldo expressed hope that the players would recover in time for the Good Friday clash against Souths on April 18.
Despite the setback, Ciraldo highlighted the club's strong depth, stating, "I feel like the depth we've got at the club now is as strong as it's been in the three years since I've been here." Club boss Phil Gould provided an update on social media, indicating that Burton and Kikau were scheduled for scans to assess the extent of their injuries.
Ciraldo acknowledged the hard work of both players and emphasized the impact of their absence, stating, "Both worked extremely hard and started the season really well so it's going to be a shame to lose them." The Bulldogs are hopeful for the return of Burton and Kikau following a bye week, but the immediate focus is on finding suitable replacements.
Crichton, who was initially seen as a backup option, is now being considered for the five-eighth position with the team facing an unexpected challenge.
The team is preparing for the upcoming matches with the belief in their strengthened squad to fill the gaps left by the injured players.
