St George Illawarra's halves are facing a challenging situation as Kyle Flanagan and Daniel Atkinson have both left the field due to ankle injuries during Saturday's match against Melbourne.
The duo sustained their injuries in a strikingly similar manner late in the first half, and although they managed to play through the second half, coach Shane Flanagan indicated that further examinations are necessary.
"They've both got bad ankles," Flanagan stated during the press conference.
"They'll have to both have scans."
"They weren't hip-drops but the [defender's] weight landed on the lower leg when they got swung around so a bit of a concern," he added.
Meanwhile, at Leichhardt Oval, Wests Tigers' center Taylan May was also forced to exit during his team's victory against the Cowboys after a heavy landing on his shoulder.
Coach Benji Marshall downplayed the situation but confirmed that scans would be necessary to fully assess the extent of the injury.
"He seemed okay but the medical staff said it's not worth the risk to put him back on," Marshall remarked after the game.
"He'll get scanned tomorrow to see where he's at. He reckons it didn't feel good at the time," he added.
