Gold Coast has signed Lachlan Ilias, who is focused on securing the starting halfback position for 2026. He is taking to heart the advice from new coach Josh Hannay.
Hannay encourages Ilias to go all out in pursuit of this goal, hoping it will create a challenging selection situation for the team.
"I've come here with belief. I know what I can do but I know I can do a lot more as well," Ilias told AAP.
He added, "That's something I have spoken about with Josh. He thinks I haven't reached my potential and I agree with that."
Ilias mentioned that Hannay advised him to approach the situation without pressure: "Josh told me to come here and not feel any pressure, to come in nice and relaxed and put my head down and work hard."
He is committed to putting in the effort, stating, "I love my extras, and wherever the team needs me to go I will do it but I am definitely going to put my best foot forward for the No.7 jersey."
At 25, Ilias' journey in rugby has had significant ups and downs.
