In a heart-wrenching turn of events, Newtown Jets legend Barry Vining has passed away at the age of 85 just moments after the club's historic NSW Cup Grand Final victory.

The rugby league community is left mourning the loss of a true icon, who dedicated his life to the sport he loved.

The longtime president of the NSWRL foundation club met his untimely end after witnessing the Jets' thrilling 28-22 triumph over North Sydney.

With 10,000 passionate fans cheering them on at CommBank Stadium in Sydney, the Jets secured their ninth NSWRL grand final win in a nail-biting showdown.

Tragically, as the final whistle blew and celebrations broke out on the field, Vining succumbed to a fatal collapse.

"Rob," a trusted confidant of the late administrator, disclosed the devastating news on Monday morning, revealing that Vining had succumbed to the excitement of the victory.

Witnesses recounted how Vining leapt up in jubilation only to fall moments later, leaving all those around him in shock.

Despite frantic efforts by family members and paramedics, Vining could not be revived, leaving a somber cloud over the historic win.

According to reports, Vining had been watching the game alongside his wife Vicki, making his sudden passing even more heartbreaking for those closest to him.
