In a heartfelt tribute during his try celebration, Cronulla Sharks halfback Nicho Hynes highlighted his close relationship with Cameron Munster, his good friend and former teammate.
Although their paths diverged when Hynes joined the Sharks in 2022, he cherishes the special moments they shared while playing together at the Melbourne Storm.
Reflecting on his beginnings, Hynes described arriving at the Storm on a train-and-trial contract at the end of 2018 after a two-year stint in the QLD Cup, feeling like a "nobody." In this challenging phase, Munster played a crucial role, mentoring and supporting him.
Hynes fondly recalled their first interaction and expressed his admiration for Munster, stating that he considers him one of the top two players he has ever seen play rugby league.
"My first pre-season there I was a nobody.
I was literally there on a train and trial contract and he didn't have to give me any time of day," Hynes shared.
Hynes' tribute not only acknowledges Munster's impact on his career but also signifies the lasting bond they formed during their time together at the Storm.
His gesture during the game underscores the importance of friendship and mentorship in sports, illustrating how influential relationships can shape a player's journey.
