Sharks plea for home ground advantage in semis amidst code clash

The Sharks are making a passionate appeal to the NRL to bring their semi-final showdown to home turf, as they face a scheduling clash with an AFL showdown next week.

Dino Mezzatesta, the Sharks' top boss, is rallying for Cronulla to host their semi-final at PointsBet Stadium, going head-to-head with an AFL clash at the SCG.

This clash of codes has thrown a spanner in the works for the Sharks, who are set to battle it out on Friday against either the Cowboys or Knights.

According to NRL's stadium policy, the game is slated to take place at Allianz Stadium, but Mezzatesta is pushing for a change of venue in the name of common sense.

In a chat with The Sydney Morning Herald following Cronulla's defeat to Melbourne, Mezzatesta spilled the beans on his discussions with the NRL earlier in the week.

He's gunning for the game to be played at PointsBet Stadium, boasting a capacity of 13,500 fans.

While the NRL is open to negotiations, Mezzatesta is making it clear that playing at CommBank Stadium is not the preferred choice for the club.

After all, Sharks fans would much rather see their team take the field in the comfort of their own backyard.
