Melbourne centre Nick Meaney has shared how a custom headgear, inspired by Reece Walsh, played a crucial role in his return to rugby just five weeks after suffering a significant injury.
Meaney, 27, fractured his cheekbone and eye socket during a collision with teammate Nelson Asofa-Solomona in a Round 3 victory over the Panthers.
Following the incident, he underwent surgery to repair the fractures, which involved the insertion of plates and screws.
Meaney described the aftermath, stating that the post-operative scan revealed "a gruesome" extent of the damage.
Upon his return to the field last week, Meaney showcased a new piece of equipment: a headgear featuring custom-made padding designed to protect his face.
This innovation not only provided physical protection but also gave him the confidence needed to play again.
