Cronulla Sharks prop Thomas Hazelton will face a lengthy absence from the game due to a sternoclavicular joint injury.
The injury, which connects the collarbone to the sternum, was sustained during the Round 10 match against the Manly Sea Eagles at 4 Pines Park.
Since then, Hazelton has been unable to play, missing the game against Melbourne in Round 11 and not being named for the Round 12 match against the Sydney Roosters.
After a series of consultations with shoulder specialists, Hazelton underwent surgery on Tuesday, and the club has confirmed that he will be sidelined for up to three months, or 12 weeks.
On a positive note for the Sharks, they will have three byes during this recovery period, starting with the upcoming Round 13 bye, followed by a Round 18 bye, and a Round 25 bye.
