Signing clue to Bulldogs’ long-term spine

Local junior Bailey Hayward has signed a new contract to stay with the Bulldogs until the end of the 2028 season, establishing himself as the club's long-term hooker after stepping in for Reed Mahoney in the starting lineup this past weekend.

This year, Hayward had already signed a contract extension through 2026, but he has now added two more years to his commitment following impressive performances in various roles.

Although he has played as five-eighth, lock, and off the bench, it's expected that Hayward will take on the dummy-half position in 2026, especially after excelling in that role during Saturday's victory over the Warriors.

With Mahoney moving to the Cowboys next year, coach Cameron Ciraldo may continue to rely on Hayward as they approach the finals.

"We're extremely happy to have Bailey extend his time at the club," said Phil Gould, the general manager of football. "He has shown an innate ability to play in multiple positions, and we have a clear vision for him to become a leader in the side. He is a local junior, he bleeds Blue and White and we are very lucky to have him at the club."
