Coach Laurie Daley has confirmed the much-anticipated halves partnership of Nathan Cleary and Mitchell Moses for New South Wales, announcing that Cleary will return as halfback while Moses takes on the five-eighth role in the series opener against Queensland on May 28.

Notably, this configuration means that both players will play on non-traditional sides of the field, with Cleary switching to the left where Daley expresses confidence in his abilities.

Daley stated, "I think some of Nathan's best football is played on the left.

His last 20 minutes of the grand final was on the left.

Magic Round when they beat the Broncos he drifted to the left." He emphasized that Moses is also capable of playing on both sides: "Mitch can play both sides, so it'll be a wait and see."

The decision to select Moses has resulted in the exclusion of Jarome Luai, who has been the first-choice five-eighth for the Blues in recent selections.

Daley acknowledged Luai's talent, remarking that he was "unlucky" to miss out, but asserted that Moses's inclusion would enhance the team's kicking game.

This strategic pivot aims to adapt to the unique demands of the series opener in Brisbane.

Overall, Daley's decisions reflect a response to the evolving dynamics of the game, focusing on maximizing the strengths of Cleary and Moses while creating opportunities for a stronger performance against their rivals.
