'Praying for a blue jersey': Matt Burton gunning for his shot in NSW 17 after bomb display for Bulldogs
If the Blues selectors need a game-changer, Matt Burton's recent bomb barrage for the Bulldogs could be just the ticket to strike fear into the hearts of the Maroons.
After watching game one from the sidelines, riding the highs and lows with the Blues, Burton is itching to take on the left centre role for the crucial clash in Melbourne.
Fans at Accor Stadium are still waiting for some of his trademark bombs to land after his impressive kicking display against the Eels.
Named as the 18th man for NSW in the first game, Burton has quickly shot up the ranks for a potential promotion.
The suspension of left centre Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii, following his debut clash that led to a brutal high shot on Reece Walsh, has opened up a spot that Burton is eager to claim.
With Latrell Mitchell also looming as a contender to reclaim his spot after a string of commanding performances for South Sydney, Burton may find himself on the bench as the Blues seek to strengthen their outside back options.
Having already represented NSW twice in 2022, Burton is hungry for another chance to don the blue jersey.
"Praying for a blue jersey in the 17, but I know I have to keep grinding and putting in the work," Burton said.
"I'll keep my hand up and be ready to go if an opportunity arises.
It's all about what we do here and staying prepared for anything that comes the way."
