Contract negotiations for Payne Haas are currently on hold as his manager, Ahmad Merhi, envisions that the Brisbane Broncos front-rower will extend his time at Red Hill beyond his existing contract, which runs until 2026.
Haas is recognized as one of the premier props in rugby league history, having earned multiple Paul Morgan medals (Broncos Player of the Year), several Dally M Prop of the Year awards, and the 2019 Dally M Rookie of the Year title.
Additionally, he has played in a Grand Final and represented both Australia and the NSW Blues.
Entering the prime of his career, Haas is on track to become one of the most significant free agents in NRL history, as he will be off-contract at the end of the 2026 season and eligible to negotiate with other teams starting November 1.
Already among the highest-paid forwards in the league, his next contract has the potential to make him the highest-paid player overall, surpassing current stars like Kalyn Ponga and Nathan Cleary.
Despite the ongoing uncertainty surrounding his future, Haas has yet to initiate discussions with the Broncos regarding a new deal beyond 2026.
Speculation has circulated recently that he may consider leaving Red Hill should the team not remain competitive for the premiership.
