Coby Black, once seen as the potential successor to Adam Reynolds at the Brisbane Broncos, has recently faced uncertainty regarding his future with the club due to the impending signing of Melbourne Storm halfback Jonah Pezet for the 2027 NRL season. This development has raised questions about Black's position at Red Hill, as his contract lasts until the end of 2026.

Nonetheless, Black remains a standout talent as the current Under-19s Queensland captain, having garnered attention from officials since his early days at just 12 years old. Despite not yet debuting in the first grade, his training with the first-grade squad has allowed him to impress both coaches and teammates alike.

"He's been a sponge and just minding his time and when he comes on to the team, everyone will know how good he is."

Although there were rumors suggesting he may not be developing at the pace the Broncos had hoped for, Black has had an impressive run in this year's QLD Cup. His performance in the Under-19s State of Origin match showcased his abilities, where he notably scored six tries, forced four drop-outs, and provided eight try assists, along with nine line-break assists during his second reserve-grade season in 2025.
