Haas in Talks with Saudi Rugby 360 Competition

Payne Haas, a standout player for the Brisbane Broncos, may be facing a significant career decision as reports indicate he's engaged in secret discussions regarding a potential move to the new Saudi Arabian-backed Rugby 360 competition. This emerging league, which is still in the planning stages, is expected to be funded by substantial financial resources from Saudi Arabia and will operate during the off-seasons of the NRL. Consequently, any players who decide to join would be unable to participate in the NRL during that time.

Haas is among several prominent players being considered for this opportunity, with estimates of his possible earnings reaching an astonishing $2.2 million per season. According to information from News Corp, he has already initiated at least one conversation with the competition's leadership about a possible transition.

With Haas' current contract with the Broncos set to expire at the end of 2026, the timing aligns well with the Rugby 360 initiative, which aims to launch in late 2024 and commence play around mid-2027. This revelation follows closely on the heels of statements from Haas' manager, who emphasized that re-signing with the Broncos remains a top priority for the player.

"Brisbane is always going to be home for Payne," Ahmad Merhi told AAP Newswire.
