Brisbane Broncos star Payne Haas has confirmed that he will represent Samoa in this year's Pacific Championships. This decision comes as Haas is one of three players considering their options, alongside Dolphins fullback Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow and Gold Coast Titans forward Tino Fa'asuamaleaui, who are also weighing whether to join Ben Gardiner's squad or travel to the UK with Kevin Walters' Kangaroos for the Ashes series.
Despite being a top pick for the Ashes, Haas has reportedly turned down the opportunity to play for Australia, according to News Corp. While he has not made a public announcement, it is understood that he has informed his teammates of his choice.
Though he has played four Tests for Australia, Haas has yet to represent Samoa, but he qualifies for the national team through his maternal lineage. Walters, now coaching the squad after Mal Meninga's departure, had previously expressed optimism about securing Haas for the UK trip.
