Clint Gutherson's recent relocation of his family to Wollongong has sparked discussions regarding his potential as a leader for the St George Illawarra Dragons.
The decision to move his wife and daughter from Sydney's northern beaches demonstrates a level of commitment and dedication that has been lacking in the team's current captain, Ben Hunt.
"I'm going to move the family down, enjoy a change of scenery," Gutherson explained.
"This will give me a chance to really buy into what they're doing and be close to training and all the boys.
I really want to build on what they started last year and see what they can do."
With the departure of Hunt, there have been suggestions for Gutherson to step up as the new captain.
Former NRL player Joel Caine emphasized the importance of Gutherson living and immersing himself in the Wollongong community.
"What I would want as a Dragons fan desperately is for him to move down there.
We're paying you close to a million dollars, I need you living in the city," Caine expressed on SEN radio.
"We need you there Clint, if I'm a Dragons fan we need you there, you've got to be living there Clint."
Gutherson's decision to uproot his family for the betterment of his rugby league career showcases the kind of leadership and dedication that could potentially revitalize the Dragons and bring a new level of success to the team.
