Griffin takes on new role, leaving Dragons behind

Rugby League veteran Anthony Griffin has scored himself a new gig after being given the boot by the St George Illawarra Dragons last season.

The 58-year-old, with a hefty 231 matches of NRL head coaching under his belt for the Brisbane Broncos (2011-14), Penrith Panthers (2016-18), and Dragons (2021-23), has made a surprising move to a rival code.

Griffin has traded the rugby league field for the Director of Rugby position at Eastwood.

This new role sees him stepping in for John Manenti, a former coach of the Australian Men's Sevens team.

"Anthony has been part of the club for the past 12 months, and we're thrilled to have someone of his caliber join us as we gear up for the future," said Eastwood chairman Rob Cusack.

This leap across codes comes as Griffin has also been rumored to be involved in a potential bid by the Western Bears to enter the NRL competition down the line, alongside former Brisbane Broncos CEO Paul White and ex-NRL Executive Jonathon Stewart.

Looks like Griffin's playing field just got a whole lot bigger.
