Rugby League legend Greg Inglis has spilled the beans on how he nearly jumped codes to the AFL during his NRL heyday, with NFL scouts also keeping a watchful eye on the superstar talent.
In an interview on the Triple M's Footy Talk podcast, Inglis reminisced about the time he came close to donning the Melbourne for Brisbane colors before the 2011 season, even sharing a handshake with Broncos talent spotter Andrew Gee.
Despite coming close to putting pen to paper, Inglis ultimately found himself at the Rabbitohs, where he etched his name in history by clinching the 2014 premiership.
But it wasn't just the Bunnies who were knocking on his door.
"We had interest from the AFL, NFL.
I came this close to staying in Melbourne because I was enamored with the culture there that I almost signed with Essendon," Inglis revealed.
"I went down there, James Hird was the coach back then and they were keen to have me on board, asking 'how much do you weigh now?'.
