Phil Gould, the director of football for Canterbury, has expressed his indifference regarding players transitioning to rugby union. He has stated, "I 'don't care' if players make the jump to rugby union."

Recently, a new threat to rugby league has emerged with the introduction of the Rugby 360 competition, which is backed by Saudi Arabian funding and offers players salaries of up to $2 million annually.

Notably, Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, a veteran fullback and winger for the New Zealand Warriors, has shown interest in the competition, having previously played the sport. Additionally, it's reported that the management of Ryan Papenhuyzen has engaged with representatives from Rugby 360.

Other players rumored to be considering a move include Nelson Asofa-Solomona, who has previously been pursued by Rugby Australia, along with Herbie Farnworth, Jaydn Su'A, Zac Lomax, and NRLW star Jessica Sergis.

Although Rugby 360 has yet to announce an official start date, preparations are in progress, leading to concerns within NRL circles about losing some of the league's top talent to the 15-man code. Nonetheless, Gould reiterates his stance, emphasizing that if players wish to leave, "they can go."
