Gould Teases Major NRL Rule Changes for 2026

Phil Gould, the director of football for Canterbury Bulldogs, has indicated that there might be significant rule changes in the NRL by 2026.

Via his X (formerly Twitter) account, Gould shared his thoughts about potential alterations in the game.

"Rule changes..." Gould wrote.

"Word on the street suggests, we have plenty of rule changes heading the way..."

"Funny game rugby league."

This three-line post might suggest that changes could be implemented concerning the kick-off, a topic that has been scrutinized recently due to the increasing concerns surrounding head injuries and concussions in the sport.

There have been discussions about possibly shortening kick-offs or even abolishing them entirely. The NRL is exploring various options in response to the rising incidents of head collisions, particularly during the initial tackle of a set that takes place off the dead ball line.
