Phil Gould, director of football for the Canterbury Bulldogs, has been discharged from the hospital and intends to participate in Channel Nine's grand final coverage this Sunday.

Gould is one of the most established figures in both administration and broadcasting within the sport. His role in one of Nine's major broadcasts was uncertain earlier this week when news of his hospitalization surfaced.

The seasoned director, who recently extended his contract with the Bulldogs until the end of 2031, voluntarily sought medical attention on Monday, leading him to miss that night's episode of 100% Footy.

There were reports indicating that he faced a heart-related issue during his hospital stay, yet he remained active in his role with the Bulldogs from his bed.

According to News Corp, Gould underwent heart surgery while hospitalized but was released on Thursday. He plans to contribute to the grand final coverage, participating in the panel discussions throughout the day and evening. Additionally, he will work from the commentary box alongside Peter Psaltis for the State Championship match featuring the New Zealand Warriors (NSW Cup champions) and the Burleigh Bears (QLD Cup champions).

On Thursday, Gould took to social media to reassure fans, stating that everything was fine and that his regular blood tests required further examination. "Thank you to all the very kind wellwishers. Greatly appreciated," he expressed on X (formerly Twitter).
