Rugby league kingpin Phil Gould has entered the arena and delivered a grim ultimatum on the fate of South Sydney dynamo Latrell Mitchell.

Mitchell, 27, has once again found himself embroiled in controversy after a leaked snapshot showed him in a Dubbo hotel room.

In the incriminating photo, Mitchell is seen leaning over a table with what appears to be a mysterious white substance.

The NRL wasted no time issuing a breach notice to Mitchell, who will face the music in front of the club's board on Thursday.

Reports suggest that the club is set to impose strict behavioral clauses into his contract.

While NRL legend Paul Gallen believes the organization bears some accountability, Gould believes it's a lost cause for Mitchell to turn over a new leaf.

The veteran NRL figure painted a bleak picture of Mitchell's future, hinting at choppy waters ahead for the star player.
