Gould Dismisses Latest Rumor Involving Burton
Phil Gould, the director of football for the Canterbury Bulldogs, has quickly addressed yet another rumor involving star player Matt Burton.
Having just come off a successful game against the St George Illawarra Dragons to kick off the Bulldogs' 2026 season, Burton has found his name increasingly linked to the Parramatta Eels.
This speculation suggests a potential trade involving Zac Lomax, who would be headed to the Bulldogs in exchange for Burton.
However, Lomax is restricted from playing for any other club until at least 2028 due to the conditions of his release with Parramatta, unless he receives prior written consent from the club.
This puts his immediate future in a precarious state, especially after a recent Supreme Court settlement concerning his case.
When questioned on social media about the possibility of a trade deal involving Lomax and Burton, Gould's response was concise.
"Absolutely ridiculous," he stated.
This remark seems to extinguish any hopes for the rumored exchange, even if the speculation continues to swirl.
In a follow-up statement after the court's decision, the Eels expressed their willingness to collaborate with Lomax on finding a pathway for his career, provided it benefits Parramatta's football strategy.
In the end, any potential trade involving Burton seems unlikely at this moment.
