Gould Defends Tackle Controversy in NRL

Phil Gould has responded to the ongoing debate surrounding a key incident from the NRL's double-header in Las Vegas, focusing on Stephen Crichton's tackle on Setu Tu of the St George Illawarra Dragons.

In a typically candid manner, Gould took to X to address the backlash that emerged on social media after the tackle, expressing his discontent with the uproar.

He quickly voiced his support for the Match Review Committee, which concluded that Crichton had committed no offense.

"What high tackle? There was no high tackle," Gould stated emphatically.

"As ruled by Bunker and Match Review Committee."

This assertion was a clear dismissal of the criticism.

Despite both the Bunker review during the game and the Match Review Committee's findings exonerating Crichton, the video of the tackle continued to create buzz online, with many fans and commentators arguing that action should have been taken.

Gould contested the in-game ruling that labeled it a high tackle.

When asked by a fan whether Crichton received a penalty, Gould responded:

"He did. We think incorrectly."
