In a decision that left many scratching their heads, the NRL has opted not to slap Penrith Panthers coach Ivan Cleary with a fine for his fiery comments aimed at Bunker official Chris Butler.
Cleary, known for his passion and fiery spirit on the sidelines, took aim at Butler following the Panthers' victory over Cronulla, dubbing one of his decisions as "terrible" and casting doubt on his ability to officiate the grand final.
The controversial call in question saw Butler ruling out a Panthers try due to an obstruction, only for the Sharks to capitalize and score at the other end of the field.
Cleary, incensed by the decision, didn't hold back in expressing his frustration during the post-match press conference.
"That call was a shocker, mate.
Makes me sweat bullets thinking about having that same Bunker official out there next week," Cleary vented, pointedly naming and shaming Butler.
"Chris Butler, that was a howler, and it's been a recurring theme all season long."
For some, the lack of repercussion for Cleary's outburst has raised eyebrows, prompting discussions about the NRL's handling of disciplinary matters.
