Mavrik Geyer, son of Penrith great Mark Geyer, has signed with the Wests Tigers after struggling to secure a stable position on the Panthers' roster due to strong competition in their second-row lineup. Geyer, who has played 14 games for the Panthers since the start of 2024, has frequently found himself shifting between the main squad and the NSW Cup.

Although Geyer remains contracted with the Panthers until the current season concludes, he has agreed to a new contract with the Wests Tigers for 2026, under coach Benji Marshall. His appearances with Penrith have been limited to just two games in 2025, further highlighting the challenges he faced in securing regular game time.

Meanwhile, the Panthers confirmed that versatile back-rower Luke Garner will remain at the club, despite earlier negotiations with rival teams. Additionally, Penrith is prioritizing contract extensions for several key players, including Lindsay Smith, which has contributed to Geyer's departure.

The Tigers have seized the chance to bolster their back-row depth by signing the 24-year-old. Geyer expressed gratitude to Panthers fans, stating, "Thanks for everything Penrith fans. I truly love you all. Still extremely focused on the 2025 season and helping the lads chase that five-peat." He also shared his eagerness about his future with the Tigers: "Very excited for the 2026 season to rip in and prove myself in the orange and black. Come pre-season I'll be hungry and ready to go."

Geyer follows in his father's footsteps, a Penrith club legend who played 135 games, scored 19 tries, and won the 1991 premiership. The Tigers are also focusing on strengthening their roster, with Samuela Fainu and Alex Seyfarth currently serving in the second-row, alongside the recent signing of Kai Pearce-Paul for 2026. As they strategize for the upcoming season, the Tigers await Adam Doueihi's decision regarding his offer.
