Garrick Reflects on Tough Sea Eagles Departure

Reuben Garrick, the Manly Sea Eagles star outside back, has highlighted his personal growth as a key reason for his move to the Sydney Roosters, effective in 2027. Garrick's decision comes after November 1, when players off-contract at the end of 2026 were allowed to negotiate with other clubs. His signature was a sought-after prize, with the Roosters, St George Illawarra Dragons, and his current team, Manly, in pursuit of him. Additionally, the Perth Bears were also reported to have shown interest.

Ultimately, Garrick chose a long-term contract with the Roosters, positioning himself to potentially replace Mark Nawaqanitawase on the wing when he transitions back to rugby union in early 2027. Garrick's versatility allows him to play in the centres or fullback, especially as James Tedesco's career approaches its conclusion.

During an appearance on the Backstage with Cooper and Matty Johns Podcast, Garrick described his decision as a "bloody tough" one. He reflected on his long-standing loyalty to the Sea Eagles, stating, "It was bloody tough. Obviously, I've been at Manly for quite a few years now, this will be my eighth season there and I love the club."

He expressed gratitude for the opportunities afforded to him at Manly, mentioning, "They've given me my opportunity (and) I have learnt so much there (and) have so many lifelong friends there…so it was very, very hard to make. One that decision and weighing everything up."
