Garrick Defends DCE Amid Manly's Playoff Struggles

‘True leader’: Garrick shuts down DCE criticism

Reuben Garrick, the Sea Eagles center, has pushed back against criticism suggesting that Daly Cherry-Evans is experiencing a decline due to age. Garrick confirmed that his own season has ended prematurely due to a shoulder injury sustained over the weekend.

Manly's chances for making the finals have significantly diminished following a "demoralising" defeat to the Wests Tigers, which leaves them four points adrift of a top-eight position with just three matches left in the season.

The team's lackluster offensive performance has sparked speculation that Cherry-Evans might consider retiring instead of joining the Roosters in 2026, as previously rumored. Since being dropped from the Queensland side, Cherry-Evans has struggled to regain his top form. However, Garrick insists that at 36, he still possesses the ability to compete at a high level.

"He's still a world-class halfback and someone that I'd choose in my side every week. Then there are other things that he does off the field that he brings to the team like leadership and camaraderie," Garrick stated, emphasizing his teammate's value.

"I don't subscribe to any of those words about DCE getting too old or Father Time catching up," he concluded.

The Sea Eagles are set to face the Dolphins, Dragons, and Warriors in their remaining fixtures, with the upcoming match marking Cherry-Evans' 350th appearance for the club.
