Newcastle Knights captain Dane Gagai has voiced strong criticism of the NRL bunker following a controversial game-winning try for the Sydney Roosters in their recent match.
With the Knights leading by two points in the second half, Roosters player Siua Wong attempted to score after a grubber kick behind the line.
Although replays suggested Wong grounded the ball with his forearm and did not gain proper control, bunker official Adam Gee ruled it a try.
This decision led to a final score of 12-8 in favor of the Roosters.
Gagai expressed his disbelief at the ruling, stating, "It was a tough one to swallow.
I know when I'm going for a try, I try to grab the ball and that nobody attempts to ground it with their forearm." The controversy surrounding this decision has sparked further debate about the effectiveness of the bunker system in the NRL.
