EXCLUSIVE: Frontrunner emerges to sign Jonah Pezet
The Melbourne Storm are currently focused on the 2025 NRL Grand Final, yet a frontrunner has started to surface for the services of young playmaker Jonah Pezet.
Pezet is seen as a rising star in rugby league, alongside talents like Isaiya Katoa and Lachlan Galvin. Many believe he could eventually succeed the Storm's seasoned halves, but he currently stands behind QLD Maroons captain Cameron Munster and 2024 Dally M Medal winner Jahrome Hughes.
Although Pezet re-signed with the Storm for a contract extending until the end of 2029 less than a year ago, he holds the status of a free agent due to a clause in his contract. This clause allows him to explore other team opportunities if Hughes, who extended his contract in July, remained with the Storm.
While earlier rumors suggested that the Raiders had pulled out of the competition for Pezet's signature, they are actively searching for a new playmaker after veteran Jamal Fogarty transferred to the Manly Sea Eagles.

However, the Raiders' pursuit of a new player depends on Zac Lomax obtaining a release from his current contract to join the rebel rugby union league known as R360.
If Lomax is granted his release, it could free up approximately $650,000 per season and a total of around $1.95 million in their salary cap.
