From scrum to try, Americans need not comply

Why NRL fans are wrong to correct confused Americans over rugby and rugby league

In a recent online article, David Niu, a former St George player and key figure in establishing the US national rugby league team, has urged NRL fans to stop correcting confused Americans over the differences between rugby and rugby league.

Niu believes that instead of getting caught up in terminology, fans should focus on attracting American attention to the sport.

He suggests that once Americans experience the exciting and fast-paced nature of rugby league, they will naturally gravitate towards it.

Niu explains that it is essential to capture their interest initially and keep things simple, allowing them to discover the intricacies of the game over time.

He sees the confusion of referring to rugby league as "rugby" as a non-issue that can generate more interest and attention.

Niu optimistically hopes that Americans will come for the rugby but, ultimately, stay for the rugby league indefinitely.
