In a twist typical of rugby league, English Test winger Dom Young is set to rejoin the Newcastle Knights after helping the Sydney Roosters clinch a narrow 12-8 victory over them.
According to nrl.com.au, Young played his final game for the Roosters on Saturday night at McDonald Jones Stadium, a match that ended weeks of speculation about his future.
He will be officially released by the Roosters on Monday and is expected to rejoin the Knights, likely earning a spot in the team to face the Dolphins in Perth the following Saturday.
Young, 23, previously made a significant impact at Newcastle, scoring a record 25 tries in a single season in 2023.
His remarkable speed, athleticism, and acrobatic touchdown skills won him many fans during his tenure with the Knights.
He played a total of 51 games for Newcastle between 2021 and 2023.
Despite being in the second season of a four-year contract with the Roosters, Young struggled to secure a regular position in their back line this year, ultimately leading to his return to Newcastle.
