Gallagher Kangaroos coach Mal Meninga has announced his 21-man squad for the upcoming 2023 Pacific Championships, with five debutants and eight grand finalists making the cut.
The squad features a mix of experienced players and fresh faces, showcasing Meninga's strategy of blending incumbent players with those who have excelled at the club and state level this year.
Among the rookies are four Brisbane Broncos players - Selwyn Cobbo, Payne Haas, Thomas Flegler, and Kotoni Staggs - who will be embarking on their first Kangaroos campaign.
They will be joined by their teammate Patrick Carrigan, adding to the Broncos' representation in the squad.
Three-time premiership-winners Nathan Cleary, Isaah Yeo, and Liam Martin have once again been selected, having been part of the Kangaroos' successful World Cup campaign last November.
Their experience and proven track record make them valuable assets to the team.
Dolphins fullback Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, who previously played centre for Queensland in their Origin series win, has also been named as a debutant.
His versatility and skills on the field make him a promising addition to the squad.
James Tedesco, the Sydney Roosters' star player, will continue to captain the team, with Lindsay Collins, another Roosters player, by his side.
The hooking role is expected to be shared between Dragons captain Ben Hunt and Storm rake Harry Grant, replicating their successful partnership from last year's World Cup campaign.
Meninga expressed his satisfaction with the squad, highlighting the combination of established players and emerging talents.
With the Pacific Championships set to kick off on October 14, the Kangaroos will be aiming to build on their previous success and bring home another victory.
