Mikey Lewis, the Hull KR half-back, is relishing the opportunity to represent England in a Test debut against Tonga.

His journey to this point has been nothing short of remarkable.

Just two years ago, Lewis was not even playing in the Super League, instead honing his skills in the Championship with York.

However, even before that, his career had been filled with ups and downs, and there was a point when he considered walking away from the sport altogether.

During his time at his amateur side, West Hull, Lewis struggled to secure a place in the team, causing him to lose his passion for the game.

However, with the support and encouragement of his parents and other influential people in his life, he found his way back to rugby league.

Reflecting on those tough times, Lewis acknowledges that they have played a significant role in motivating him throughout his career.

Following his loan spell at York, Lewis was thrust into a struggling Hull KR team at the age of 20, where he played a pivotal role in their journey to the 2021 playoffs.

In just two years, he has gone from being relatively unknown to becoming one of the standout players in the Super League.

His impressive performances this season, particularly in the Challenge Cup final and the Super League semi-finals, have caught the attention of the national selectors.

Lewis's rise from the lower leagues to the international stage is a testament to his determination and resilience.

Despite facing numerous obstacles and doubts along the way, he has persevered and now has the chance to represent his country.

With a smile on his face, Lewis is grateful for the opportunities that rugby league has given him and is ready to seize the moment on the international stage.
