Luke Vella, the former Local junior turned Jersey Flegg Premiership Winning Coach, has been given a promotion to assistant coach on the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs NRL football staff for the 2024 season.

This news was reported by bulldogs.com.au, where they highlighted Vella's new role as an NRL Transition Coach.

Vella, who is only 29 years old, will be joining Chad Randall and the current assistant coach, Jason Taylor, as part of a revamped coaching structure under Head Coach Cameron Ciraldo's second year at Canterbury.

Vella's promotion follows a successful year as the 2023 Jersey Flegg Cup Coach, where he led a highly talented and dedicated squad to victory in the Premiership against the Sydney Roosters.

This win also marked the Club's first Jersey Flegg title in twenty years.

This achievement is particularly noteworthy considering Vella's own rugby league journey, as he was part of the Club's Under 20 NYC squad in 2014 before a devastating spinal injury forced him to end his NRL dreams prematurely.

Despite not being able to fulfill his own NRL ambitions, Vella is determined to give the upcoming batch of Bulldogs players every opportunity to excel.

He is passionate about helping them make the most of the chances they have in front of them.

With his experience as a successful coach and his deep understanding of the game, Vella's promotion to assistant coach is well-deserved and will undoubtedly benefit the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs NRL team in the 2024 season.
