From Cricket to Try: Smith's NRL Journey

Ryley Smith, a promising young player for the Parramatta Eels, has shared his journey from cricket to the NRL, revealing how he left the Penrith Panthers to pursue his rugby league aspirations.

Smith now plays alongside stars Dylan Brown and Mitchell Moses, realizing a dream as he steps onto the field.

The Eels, having reached the 2022 NRL Grand Final, faced a significant downturn, missing out on finals in consecutive seasons and just avoiding last place last year.

In an effort to rebound under new head coach Jason Ryles, the team is integrating several younger players from the NSW Cup, including Smith, who has shown significant potential.

Smith has embraced his opportunity, firmly establishing himself in the dummy-half position, surpassing competitors Brendan Hands and Joey Lussick.

Recently, he completed his first 80-minute match against the Wests Tigers.

"I didn't think I'd have this opportunity this early, but I'm just trying to learn every day and take every day as it comes," Smith remarked.
