Tyson Frizell, a veteran forward for the Newcastle Knights, is contemplating his future as he approaches the 2026 NRL season. Just four months after signing a one-year extension with the Knights, Frizell is reflecting on his next steps as he prepares for his 16th season in the league.
At 34, Frizell is nearing the end of his playing career, with the prospect of reaching his 300-match milestone next season if he remains in good health. He has also announced his retirement from representative rugby after 2024, having played 14 times for Australia and 16 for the NSW Blues. Rumors suggest that the upcoming season might be his last, but Frizell has not made a final decision regarding his career.
Currently, he is evaluating his position at the Knights and in the competition as a whole. "I'm not too sure yet. We'll have to see how we get through," Frizell remarked, as reported by The Newcastle Herald. He expressed his desire to continue playing for as long as possible, stating, "If it is, well so be it. I'm still looking to play on for as long as I can, and ... I'm enjoying my footy and love coming to work every day. I don't really see it as work, but you say it is. But we'll see how we go."
Frizell aims to finalize his decision about his future by the middle or latter part of the upcoming season. "I'll get through the year and hopefully towards the back end, maybe the middle of the year, make a decision on what happens," he concluded.
